2012 Resolutions
Wohooo it’s time to make those New Years resolutions which more than 90% will not keep. Well last year I kept all of my resolutions, and I am determined to do the same next year. The key is to make them attainable and make them something you really want to achieve My 2011 Resolutions were: 1. Complete a half-marathon I completed this in March. This was a huge deal for me. I’ve...

2012 Most Anticipated Films
2011 has been good, but 2012 looks like it could be even better (I better not jinx it). New entries into beloved franchises, exciting works from auteur directors, and Ryan Gosling! Sounds like a fantastic mix to me. Here are the top 10 films I am personally most excited about for 2012 1. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (dir. Peter Jackson) It’s Peter Jackson and the WETA mavericks....

Things I liked in Film 2011
I’ve already named my top 10 films of 2011, but I wanted to name some favourite genre films, favourite scenes, and other random (and meaningless) categories. This post is just an excuse for me to give some love to the things I really enjoyed in film this year. Best Animated Film: Arthur Christmas 2011 was a fairly disappointing year for animated films. Pixar released their first really...

Tintin in 3D on Christmas Night! What a fun treat indeed. First all I have to say that I think the 3D is not necessary to enjoy this film. The 3D fee + the eye strain doesn’t make the few scenes where the 3D really pops worth it in my opinion. Once you get past how creepy the animation of the people is, it is pretty damn spectacular.  The film is worth seeing for a few amazing set...

Best Films of 2011
Below are my favourite films of 2011. Plenty of the films which were released this year in the USA, have not [yet] or will not be released in cinemas in Australia/New Zealand. If I haven’t seen it, I can’t put it on my list.  My most anticipated film list will be coming later in the week. I’m rather ashamed to say there are no foreign language films in my list this year....

Best New TV 2011
In order, here are my favourite new TV shows of 2011. 1. Boss (STARZ) The darkest drama on TV. A look behind the dirty world of politics which could easily cause you to lose all faith in public servants and humanity. Kelsey Grammer like you’ve never seen before; absolutely mind-blowing. A 10 episode 2nd season will air sometime in 2012. 2. Game of Thrones (HBO) What more can be...

Favourite Music of 2011
My top music for 2011 (in no particular order). A mix of songs, albums, and experiences. 1. The Black Keys - El Camino (Album) The newly released album sees The Black Keys really perk up. It’s like they took some happy pills and couldn’t feel the emotions needed to create some of there more sombre tunes which usually fill a large part of their albums. The result is a fun, slightly...

As of Jan 2012 there will be no more film reviews or other film related posts on this tumblr. Over a few years I’ve slowly built up the amount of film content on this site, and the traffic has steadily grown. This week I had the single busiest day since I started this tumblr - it was the day I posted my 2011 Film Disappointments. I’m not sure how the new blog will go. I’m not...

It’s been a good week for Ryan Gosling. Not only was he named TIME’s “coolest person of the year”, but he has also received Golden Globe acting nominations for THE IDES OF MARCH and CRAZY STUPID LOVE. And so the Gosling train chugs on.

2011 Film Duds
Despite it being a fantastic year for film there was still I few I thought were absolutely awful. It’s just as well we have these bad films to balance out the good ones. Below are my personal choices for worst films of 2011 (in no particular order). I am sure there are much worse films out there (JACK AND JILL!), but thankfully I haven’t seen them.  1. Bad Teacher Even JT...

I'm Still Here
If I was only allowed one word to sum up this film, that word would be, Masturbatory. What an egotistical piece of shit. How did this get made? It was like a series of college videos about how cool am I and all my friends. Look at me being a wanker, and hey here is Diddy and Ben Stiller and all these other famous people I know, because I’m so f*cking awesome. So so bad that it made me...

2011 Film Disappointments
2011 has been a fantastic year for film; and yet amongst the great films were a bunch of stinkers. Stinkers are fine, there will always be bad films. What I find worse than bad films are those films you had such high hopes for that just fell flat. Here are the films that disappointed me personally (in no particular order) 1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes Ok, I know what you’re thinking....

2011 Film Fads
Fad is perhaps the wrong word. I hope Gosling isn’t a fad. Trends, patterns, peaks in popularity. Call it what you want, the following 4 things showed up a lot this year. 1. The End of the World and Mortality 2011 has been the year that we have thought about our mortality. 2011 films spent a lot of time pondering our existence, and more specifically the fragility of it. Life can be gone in...

Cowboys & Aliens
Oh seriously what was this film? I was so bored. Boring boring boring. No real story, no real action and a complete waste of the acting talent. The saving grace was Daniel Craig’s hotness. The film would have been a heap better if he’d just stood there and looked broody for 90mins. 1/5
